Confirmation

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

—Proverbs 22:6

He also said,

“With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”

— Mark 4:30-32

Bob Talbert once said,

“Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best.”

Confirmation is a lifelong process of maturing in the Christian faith. Families begin this journey when they make promises to God at a child’s baptism and it continues throughout one’s life.

Confirmation is the chance for youth to affirm the baptism vows their parents made for them when they were younger. It’s the chance to say “I’m in!” when it comes to following Jesus and living as he’s called us to live. It’s their moment to claim the faith for themselves and take responsibility for following and serving and loving Christ in their lives in this community of faith.

Confirmation is a time to explore, study, and question one’s faith. It is a time to consider the confirmation of one’s baptism if baptized in infancy. If you would like to participate in this confirmation program contact your pastor. You do not need to have already been baptized to attend. A baptism service will be planned for those who have not yet been baptized.

It is our desire to build a sense of community among our youth and to blend the confirmation experience into the larger offerings of education, worship, fellowship and service for our children and youth. Thus parents, mentors and the congregation itself engage the Holy Spirit and encourage Youth participation in all aspects of church life.

The Confirmands study theology and what it means to be a member of the United Church of Christ.
