Membership

Romans 12:4-5 is evidence that the church consists of many members as Paul says,

“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” This shows that we belong to one another. I Corinthians 12:14-16 reveals that each part of the body of Christ, the church, is made up of several members; “Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.”

We value membership at First Congregational-UCC. While some of our most faithful and serving have opted not to be members, and they remain so sincerely loved and valued; as the infrastructure of First Congregational-UCC is that to serve as a Deacon or a Trustee, membership is required.

Membership means different things to different people. To meet people where they are, we hold three-session classes on the United Church of Christ. The classes are designed to enlighten, inform, and further bond prospective members to the church family. The classes take place on an as needed basis.
