Dear Congregation,
We continue the theme of journeys for the third consecutive week. First, we learned of Hagar being sent away. Her unexpected and unwelcomed journey turned into acute heartbreak. Her son, Ishmael, was about to die in the desert due to dehydration. Yesterday, Abraham carried a knife on a journey with Isaac with the plan to kill him as a sacrifice. This Sunday, we will learn of Abraham’s servant who has been called to seek a wife for Isaac (Genesis 24). This servant, like us, sends a prayer for guidance.
Let’s think about our specific prayers to God. Sometimes they work. Sometimes God has other plans, or are we the ones with other plans?
Consider this question as you continue to consider your journey.
Godspeed.
