“Lord,” he said, “I want to see.”— Luke 18:40c
Pray to God, “I want to see.”
You know what will happen? You will see!
Maybe you’ll see a solution to a problem you have. Maybe you’ll see poverty differently. Maybe you’ll find a remnant of your racism. (We all have remnants of racism, or will resurface them.)
Maybe you’ll see a ministry opportunity. It’s the very same ministry opportunity you have seen before and have successfully ignored. But maybe this time you’ll do more than downplay it. Maybe—yes, maybe—you’ll do something about it this time.
Bartimaeus is the blind man whose interaction with Jesus is recorded in all three of the synoptic gospels. When Bartimaeus stands before Jesus, the Son of David asks the soul who has been begging on the street this question: “What do you want me to do for you?”
Respond to Jesus just as Bartimaeus does. Say, ‘I want to see.”
Bartimaeus literally regains his sight. Imagine the world he sees!
Now imagine the world you will see after you ask Jesus to give you vision.
PRAYER: Lord, we pray we see what you want us to see and then do what we are supposed to do, which is love in your world around us. Amen.
