We should grieve the losses we experienced on September 11, 2001. We should also rise from those memories. Jesus shares how.
FULL TRANSCRIPT:
Scripture this Sunday, 9/11, speaks of healing and hope to a nation that still grieves. In Luke chapter 7, Jesus approaches a funeral procession. A widow who must still mourn her husband is about to bury her one and only son. With compassion Jesus shares, "Don't cry."
Then Jesus lays his hand on the coffin and to the lifeless boy inside, he says, "I tell you, get up."
This two-tier message from Jesus-"Don't cry," and "I tell you, get up," - signifies what I hope unifies our nation.
Jesus is saying here more than "I've got this," Jesus is saying, "I will
heal you through this."
There's a time to cry. There is a season to cry according to Ecclesiastes. Jesus understands this. Jesus also understands and encourages us as a nation to look to and lean on him and rise - get up - become brighter, better, more beautiful.
Join us Sunday for hope and for healing.
Amen.
