WHEN YOU AREN’T YOU

The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we will also live with him. — 2 Timothy 2:11

Euphoria isn’t an address on another street across town. You live there, too.

I get it. I live it. It isn’t all bliss where you live. It isn’t all bliss where I live either, but each of us has blissful moments, or we can have blissful moments.

How? We get off ourselves. Specifically, we get out of ourselves. We are far too good at being shortsighted and even selfish, but when we think from a place that isn’t our own location, thought or action?

Yes, when you aren’t you—when God enters your head and His words come out of your mouth? You know this. It is glory. It is goodness.

Move out of the way. That’s the simple version of what Paul is saying in 2 Timothy. Yeesh, this will read like a billboard near the exit where you get off the hard road of life to find Blissville and your house there on the corner marked by the street signs that read God’s Way and I’m Out Of The Way, but it’s true. Let Jesus do your walking. Let Jesus do your talking.

You can live in euphoria. Or you can live so near to it that this glory and this goodness—Jesus’ glory and goodness— just spills over.

PRAYER: Jesus, get us out of the way so that your way—your bliss—is where we live with rooms not for some but all. Amen.
