Deborah said to Barak, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: Call out 10,000 warriors from the tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun at Mount Tabor. And I will call out Sisera, commander of Jabin’s army, along with his chariots and warriors, to the Kishon River. h
Barak told her, “I will go, but only if you go with me.” — Judges 4:6-8
You have received the best news at some point or points in your life. Here’s a reminder of what that sounded like. (Turn your speakers up for the full effect.) Woohoo!
Barak, the military leader of Israel, is given the BEST news. A victory is his! The Lord, the God of Israel, is on his side! This is a sure win!
He doesn’t ask if this is really happening. He does not doubt or question Deborah, the VIP in her day. “Okay,” he says. “But come with me on this.”
Maybe this can be seen as his weakness. He is unavailable for comment now, so I can’t ask him. But I do know that, like you, I have asked others to come with me during a ‘big deal’ day, and, yes, this battle with Sisera seems like a big deal.
Deborah has something Barak needs. He doesn’t hesitate, whine, or think twice. He certainly isn’t afraid to ask for help.
Barak wins as God promised. Deborah gets the accolade, which is indeed a big deal, but best of all, a people oppressed are freed.
Go for your big deal, even if someone has to hold your hand for this to happen.
PRAYER: God, You didn’t take away or diminish this win because Barak asked what he asked to Deborah. Instead, You taught Barak that it was okay to ask for help. You raised Deborah. You also set Your downtrodden people free. Not such a bad day. For this, we love and worship You all the more. Amen.
