We can glance—or gloss—over the seams in stories like when Jacob marries Leah and then Rachel. Obvious heartbreak and heaviness can’t be avoided, however. Still, there is comfort in uncomfortable scripture.
APPLICATION: Rather than look to those in the story for redemption, look to God. The character of God needs our focus, not the characters of others. The take home is clear: God does come through, even, or especially, when others do not.
PRAYER: Merciful God, come through. When we cannot see what You are doing, turn our inner eyes on who and how You are, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Savior of all who come to Him. Remind us again that, when we do this, we will be comforted, grounded, uplifted and in Your ongoing, steadfast care. Amen.
