My camera is phooey! Here is this week's vlog as I can provide it, which is in the format of a transcript only.
________
Life teaches us to read between the lines. Perhaps scripture does, too.
When the rich young man asks about eternal life, Jesus answers, "Sell all your possessions and give your money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven."
Perhaps there's a pun on the word 'treasure.' Not all of us have difficulty sharing financial resources that were never ours in the first place.
Maybe this Ash Wednesday and into Lent that follows, Jesus isn't asking you for money as he is with this rich young man. Maybe what he wants you to give up is your vanity— your looking good to the world. Maybe he's asking you to give up comfort or convenience. Maybe he's asking you to give up the control you think you have.
This Sunday as we begin the "Let Your Life Speak" sermon series, read between the lines. Specifically, read between the lines you've drawn that keep your distance from the divine.
God Bless your Ash Wednesday, and God bless you.
Until we meet virtually or live this Sunday,
Amen.
