“Imagination should be used not to escape reality, but to create it.”
This quote from modern philosopher Colin Wilson echoes lines in Lewis Carroll’s "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland." In the famous children's story, the door says, “Why, it’s simply impassible!”
Alice counters. “Why, don’t you mean impossible?”
The door responds. “No, I do mean impassible. Nothing is impossible.”
The same script holds this line, too. “You must close your eyes, otherwise, you won’t see anything.”
Imagine what is possible with a world that is right, not wrong, a world of angels, not anger, a world of life not loss.
We become tiresome when we see scripture as restrictive when, in fact, Jesus is liberating, exhilarating, and, when we think of what doors can open, Jesus is fascinating.
Join us Sunday in person or online as we imagine what can be when we open 1 John 13:18. “Let us not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.”
Until then, may God bless your imagination. Amen.
