Sermon Intro

Week Of: June 14, 2021
Speaker: Pastor Will Hagenbuch
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:21 - 6:10
“We own nothing,” Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 6:10b, “and yet we have everything."

Think of the poor dad wearing worn boots because his teenage kids are wearing the best brands on their feet. This is the same dad who lost a good chunk of his satisfying dinner or dessert to one of his hungry kids.

Maybe you’ve heard the question, or maybe you’ve asked this question! “Hey, dad, are you gonna eat that?”

Fathers who hold such deep love for their children get what Paul is saying here. “We have nothing. Then again, we have everything.”

Parents don’t “own” their kids because they are gifts from God. They belong to God. They are never really “ours.”

And yet, in the quiet of the night when they are deep into their sleepy dreams (which is where mine are now as I write this), we know we have everything.

Our Happy Father’s Day sermon is coming. Let’s consider what we own, which is nothing. In the same breath, let’s also consider what we have, which in Christ is everything.
