Me? Seriously?
I thank Jesus Christ our Lord, who has given me strength to do his work. He considered me trustworthy and appointed me to serve him. —1 Timothy 1:12
Both his resume and his self-reflection call it like it is: he’s the bad of the bad. A guy much like John the Baptist when it comes to honesty, Paul, our author here, knows he is not worthy enough to even tie Jesus’ sandals.
But here’s the thing. Like you, he said yes. He said he’d do it. And he did. He carried Jesus Christ’s message of eternal salvation because he heard what you may need to hear again. You, too, are trustworthy. You, too, are appointed.
This is exactly where you and Paul align. Paul didn’t do this work with his own strength. You’re not doing his work—Jesus’ work—with your own strength, either.
Too often we look for God in the big things, the well-lit billboard miracles on the highway of life.
God is there, yes.
God is also in you through Jesus who gives you strength.
And that miracle, that amazingly small, always true miracle, answers, “Yes,” each time you ask, “Me, seriously?”
PRAYER: I thank you, Lord, for giving me the strength to do your work. Amen.
