As a young boy, my pillow wasn’t soft, hard, fluffy or block-like. My pillow was friendly. In addition to being a well-worn supplier of comfort, that catcher of my childhood tears was my refuge.
The author of Psalm 91 writes that God is our refuge. In being our refuge, God is the Comforter. God is also the Catcher. God lifts us from our deepest troubles. God provides shelter from our fiercest storms and even (or especially) our tears today.
APPLICATION: The next time you rest with your pillow (or pillows), release or relinquish yourself to the best refuge, God. When you wake, read Psalm 91 anew and afresh because it will neither sound nor feel like it did before.
It will be better, much better.
