When there's a pew in the aisle of the sanctuary, you don't think "Huh." You think, "The message here is awesome."

And then there’s this.
This church pew was removed today to make room for others. “Making room for others” is a line that I’ll pull from a diary entry from a woman named Mrs. Vadakin. Mrs. Vadakin is a voice from this church’s history.
Another voice from this church’s history is Dr. Buell. And in 1900, on the 100th anniversary of the church, Dr. Buell wrote, “There are two ways of looking at the past. One is sitting down and folding your hands in complacency for what has been accomplished; the other is looking back that your hearts may be fired with purpose.”
I do more than hope, I pray that your hearts are fired with purpose. I pray that somehow these 200-year-old timbers speak not only to your soul but to your Christ-like sense of service and making room for others.
As we celebrate this building’s 200th year this Sunday, let’s keep constructing, let’s keep inviting, let’s keep making others in Christ’s name. Amen.
