David replied to [Goliath] the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. —1 Samuel 17:45
Oh, I will feel your groan when I share the number of days between now and Christmas. It’s 187. That 187 is if you catch this prep on June 21. (It’s 186 if you catch this prep on June 22.)
I did the math for us. You’re welcome!
I released a similar groan when recently looking for ribbon for the adoption that took place last weekend. That at the tip of June, I saw a Halloween merchandise in a craft store.
Christmas comes too fast, even when we are not counting. What also comes too fast is the time you have to wrap those Christmas gifts. But before the wrapping, oh, yes, there’s the purchasing of batteries.
The joy of having God with us is the joy of not needing batteries. When we tap into gifts from God as David does here, we have all the charge we need from God. We have all the power we need from God.
You may or may not celebrate that there’s 187 or 186 days until Christmas, but when it comes from the power we need from God, it’s a win each day.
Come on, call it. It is a win. And we didn’t need a slingshot or a stone to do it.
That’s a win, too, especially for those, like me, who need a battery-operated launching device to get a little rock anywhere need the Philistine’s head.
PRAYER: Thank you for the power, Mighty God. We certainly need it, especially when in craft stores between now and October 2024.
