The next Sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. They asked, “Where did he get all this wisdom and the power to perform such miracles?” Then they scoffed, “He’s just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us.” — Mark 6:2-3. NLT
They were amazed. Then they were not amazed.
If you had to choose which one to land on permanently, amazed or not amazed, thrilled or not thrilled, and joyful or not joyful, tell me amazed, thrilled and joyful are the words you would want to define you.
Even the grumpiest among us would choose to be amazed, thrilled and joyful, right? I mean, no one wakes up in the morning and says, “Yes! I’ll take a glass half empty or an all and all out miserable day, please.”
Or is that true?
Jesus is full on here. In His element, He is preaching and teaching. Calling everyone to follow Him, He is showing with love and direction the way to truth, love and life—everlasting life.
Many listen and learn. They are amazed.
They didn’t stay this way, however.
You don’t have to stay amazed, either.
But you can.
Choose to stay amazed. Choose thrill. Choose joy. Choose the wisdom and power in the One who performs miracles each day among us brothers and sisters.
PRAYER: Jesus in our choice, may we realize there is really no choice. It’s You, our amazing Savior now and forever. Amen.
