“Why did God do this?” she laments. Something so sad has happened to this little girl whose face is washed in her tears. “Why?”
Yes, why? She isn’t the only one to ask.
Paul helps us find our answer when he says our roots will grow down into God’s love (Ephesians 3:17a). Roots grow down, not up. Roots do not raise to praise God in some pep rally praise worship. No, roots go and grow down, down, down, where more water and wellness in the soil enables the plant to grow bigger and stronger.
APPLICATION: Grow bigger and stronger. How? Ask your “Why?” questions. Keep on asking your “Why?” questions. To extend the metaphor of the plants and roots one more time, this “why” is how you grow, and with tears himself, Paul, like me (and my own wet face at times), prays that you grow.
