And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. — Ephesians 3:18, NLT
Paul is clear. If we devote ourselves to God, then we, who are God’s people, should know how wide, long, high, and deep the Eternal’s love is for us.
Yes, we should know.
This doesn’t always mean we do know.
In other words, we can be sure of God’s love, or we can be sure of God’s love—mostly.
I smile at this. I hope you smile, too.
I smile because God can surprise, amaze, and astound us. God can thrill, delight and astonish us.
We do know God solves pings, pangs, and problems in ways we do expect, predict, and somehow fathom. God also solves pings, pangs and problems in ways we cannot expect, predict, or somehow fathom.
And this? Wow, this is incredible!
Of course, we should be completely and unquestionably sure of who God is. No surprises. No shadows.
Then, too, in the very same breath, we cannot be sure (100% certain) how wide, long, high and deep God’s love is until God, who is infinite, shows us, who are finite, how wide, long, high, and deep His never-stopping, never quite measurable, always abundant, always amazing, and always astounding His love is.
PRAYER: God, we are Your people who do and do not (and can and cannot) completely understand Your endless, never-ceasing love. Still, this does not ever stop You from assuring us in one moment and astounding us in the next moment with just how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your endless, never-ceasing love for us is. Thank you. Oh, yes, thank you! Amen.
