"No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you (John 14:18)."
These words from Jesus hold a powerful, even painful meaning to children in the foster care system who, for the most part, are orphans. The language of abandonment is significant because this is the experience these children have all faced to some extent. The cracks this creates on the psyche can never be fully measured or completely healed on their own. In knowing this, Jesus chooses to enter with what each of us longs for, which is our loved one coming to us to rescue us, to hear us, to hold us, and to never, ever stop loving us.
APPLICATION: Always let Jesus come to you. Always. Because he is "that" loved one. No matter where you are, he will rescue, hear and hold you.
